The End Of The World – The Beginning Of My Journey
I am right now in Ushuaia – a city also known as “El fin del Mundo”, or “The end of the World”. This is the southernmost city of the world, and it’s only 1000 km away from Antarctica. The scenery here is gorgeous, with snow-capped mountains and the Beagle channel surrounding the city. Right now it is spring and the days are quite chilly, around 5-10 degrees. The wind has so far been “medium”, but I guess this is nothing compared to what I will encounter on the other side of the Andes when the flat part of Patagonia begins. At least I have learned that the weather can change in an matter of minutes.
The transport of the bike went alright, even though the box looked quite bad. Luckily, I had put some hard pieces of wood around the wheels so nothing was skew! I went on a trip the first day (without bags), and it felt wonderful! What a freedom! Following a winding road, I finally ended up at a glacier called Glaciar Martial. It didn’t really look like a glacier, but there was a lot of snow for sure! The animals here are not afraid of getting close, which means loads of possibilities for the camera to do it’s job! I saw three eagles on my way up the mountain, and it seeems to be a wide variety of birds in general.
Talking about animals, I’ve already encountered an apparently serious business of this kind of trip – dogs. There are dogs everywhere in this city, and on my through a rural part I was “attacked” by two at the same time. I made the mistake to kick at one of them but that only turned him on. Luckily, it was downhill… I’ve now mounted the pepper spray that I bought in Buenos Aires ready to use on the handlebar , so the next time they will definitely learn a lesson!
Today I bought a pair of trekking shoes and fishing gear. I was also able to get a fishing license for all of Patagonia for 350 pesos, around 65 euros. My food supplies have been stocked up with some meals and the stove bottle filled with gasoline. I will start pedalling tomorrow so that will be my first expedition day, and many guys from the hostel will wave me off!
South America – here I come!
Å… det ser härligt ut! Synd att jag sålde veteranmoppen, med den kanske jag kunnat följa med dig. Men.., se upp med de där förbaskade vildhundarna, värre än katter Calle.
Härligt…ser ju grymt ut Calle, Hoppas resan blir en grymm upplevelse nu med många goa fiskar på kroken:)

Lycka till! Man blir såååå sugan alltså! På mina resor har ag aldrig packat in cykeln för flygresan utan bara rullat upp den till incheckningen. Har fått för mig att personalen är räddare om en cykel än om ett stort paket! Som sagt: Lycka till! Det ser skitskönt ut! Ger du dig själv tid kommer du att lyckas!

Hi Carl-David we’re right behind you quite literally ! We’re in Ushuaia too, readying for our off following pretty much the same route as you, so with the wind in our favour we might catch you up :)

Hejsan! Ser ut som om du ska ut pa en spannande resa! Ushuaia ser haftigt ut! Du, vi kommer att cykla fran Buenos Aires ner till Ushuaia. Har kopt cyklar har i Buenos Aires och borjar cykla pa lordag. Det verkar som att du har mycket erfarenhet, vi har nastan ingen.. Och jag undrar om du kan ge mig nagra tips eller liknande? Här sitter en ressugen tjej framför datorn och har nu underhållit sig med dina inlägg en stund. Roligt att du tagit dig tid att skriva så mycket. Texten tillsammans med bilderna gör att det känns som man nästan är där med dig. Jag hoppas att det fortsätter så :) Det måste kännas riktigt skönt att ha börjat resan!? Skoj att djuren är så orädda, det kommer säkert göra att du kommer kunna ta mycket vackra kort (om du inte sparkar iväg dom iaf)! Om inte annat är ju vyerna tokigt vackra också och varken springer iväg eller anfaller, så jag hoppas på mycket naturbilder. När du är hemma igen får du ta dig tid till att göra ett vackert album. Känner mig mycket avundsjuk på middagen i BA. Det riktigt vattnades i munnen när jag såg köttet. Själv sitter jag och mumsar på pepparkaksdeg. Inte lika kulinariskt! ;)
Hur som helst är det, som flera andra nämnt, bra att du äter bra, och med förutsättningarna där nere så är det säkert inga problem att fylla på med energi. Inte proteinet iallafall… glöm inte kolhydrater!
